Long Tom Shotgun Stock, Part III

December 6, 2011

Well, I can finally sit back and look at the project and it resembles a shotgun. It shoulders and points beautifully too. I’d say the inletting is about 95% there and I am working at a good clip to get the shaping done and get on with sanding. However, I can’t finish shaping the wrist and grip until it’s fully inletted.

I think the photos explain my method of fitting the wood to the metal. I like the tried and true way of inletting black and the careful usage of chisels, rasps, and round sanding blocks (dowels and sockets wrapped with sandpaper).
